Alkanet Extract
Alkanna tinctoria (known as orchanet, dyer’s bugloss or Spanish bugloss) is a red dye which is soaked in almond or castor oils to extract a beautiful, vibrant pink colour. This is then used in both our skin and hair products, and is often been said to have both antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Description
Alkanet plants have a purple-hued bark and bear funnel-shaped, blue, yellow or white flowers. These plants grow thick roots and can reach 30cm high.
Traditionally, it has been cultivated in Central and Southern Europe as a natural dye to stain wood and colour medicines.
