As a perfume ingredient, labdanum is great as a fixative, helping other perfume ingredients stay on the skin in addition to lending its own sweet, earthy scent to products.
Small shrubs of the labdanum become covered in many flowers when they blossom. The leaves are evergreen and become coated in a sticky resin called labdanum that protects the plants from hot, sunny weather and dehydration. The resinoid is obtained through a method called solvent extraction, and has a complex, earthy aroma.
