Also known as lemon-scented verbena and lemon-scented backhousia, the essential oil is distilled from the leaves and small twigs of the Australian Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora). It contains over 90% citral, one of the key characteristic components of lemon oil, which gives lemon myrtle oil its fresh, zesty scent and its antimicrobial properties.
