Meadowsweet (Spiraea ulmaria - also known as Filipendula ulmaria) has been used for medicinal purposes since the Bronze Age. Traditional herbalists knew of meadowsweet’s usefulness as a treatment for fevers, colds and aches, and it was one of the sacred plants of the Druids. Today, this soothing herb is used for various skin conditions and is thought to help with rashes and irritation as it has anti-inflammatory, tightening, toning and astringent properties.
Description
Meadowsweet is a perennial herb and grows in meadows, at the edges of ponds, on riverbanks and in damp woodlands and produces a fragrant, brush-like cluster of small, pink or creamy white flowers. We make our infusion with dried, cut leaves and stems steeped in boiled water.
