The grapefruit is a hybrid between an orange and a pomelo, which belongs to the Rutaceae plant family. Cyprian grapefruits grow on large evergreen fruit trees, which can grow up to nine metres tall and produce around 500 fruits per year.
The oil from these large, yellow fruits is extracted by cold expression from the peel. Grapefruit oil is popular for lifting the mood and has been used extensively to clear the mind and help with stress. It has a sweet citrus aroma, and is made up of around 90% limonene, which is thought have antiseptic, astringent and antibacterial effects on the body and hair, clearing the skin and adding shine the hair shaft.
