Sweet wild orange oil is cold pressed from the peel of the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis). It has a cheerful, sweet scent that immediately lifts the spirits. Alongside the oil's antiseptic and toning qualities, its fragrance also complements other sweetly-perfumed ingredients, giving a refreshing scent, and also a delicious flavour in products designed to be used on the lips.
Description
The main constituents are limonene and pinene. It is used in aromatherapy to combat depression and to help boost the immune system. It is recommended generally to uplift the mood and as a cheerful fragrance during the darker winter months.
The sweet orange is a flowering tree with glossy, evergreen leaves and thorny branches, and it is thought to be native to China and the Far East. The trees now grow all over the world. The juicy, orange-coloured fruits which grow are a type of berry called hesperidium, from which a citrusy oil can be extracted via cold-pressing.
