Description
The sweet orange is a flowering tree with glossy, evergreen leaves and thorny branches, and it is thought to be native to China and the Far East. The trees now grow all over the world. The juicy, orange-coloured fruits which grow are a type of berry called hesperidium, from which a citrusy oil can be extracted by cold-pressing the peel.
The main constituents are limonene and pinene. It is used in aromatherapy to combat depression and to help boost the immune system. It is recommended generally to uplift the mood and as a cheerful fragrance during the darker winter months.
