Nettle Powder

Nettle Powder

Nettle belongs to the Urticaceae plant family. We use the dwarf or annual nettle, which grows all year in Egypt, North America and across Europe.

Description It looks very similar to the common stinging nettle, but it is smaller with long stems and small, soft, green leaves. These are covered in tiny hairs and small flowers. There are several types of nettle: common nettle, Roman nettle and annual nettle. The plants are harvested as they begin to flower and are dried for infusions, liquid extracts, ointments, powders and tinctures. Herbalists use nettle for anaemia, arthritis and skin complaints. The name stinging nettle comes from the Latin word urere - which means ‘to burn’ because of the small stinging hairs on the stems and leaves. All nettles contain vitamins A and C, minerals, and are very rich in chlorophyll. Nettle plants are commercially processed for the extraction of chlorophyll. Nettle leaves can be dried for teas and are also used to make nettle beer. We use powdered nettle in our Caca Brun herbal hair colour for its soothing and toning qualities on the scalp and hair.
